India National Cricket Team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is under immense pressure to deliver in the intra-squad match, starting on Friday, June 13. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been going through a rough patch, and he has already faced the wrath of head coach Gautam Gambhir over his batting form.

Jaiswal, who failed to set the IPL 2025 on fire with the bat for the Rajasthan Royals, was among the seven senior Indian players sent early to England to get ready for the upcoming five-match Test series, starting on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.

Pressure Mounts on Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of England Test series

Since the left-hander had never played in English conditions before, the Indian selectors decided to allow him to gain experience and get acclimatized to the swinging conditions by including him in the India A team for the two unofficial Test matches against the England Lions.

However, things didn’t go as planned for the young opener. In his four innings, Jaiswal could only manage scores of 24, 64, 17, and 5 against the England Lions.

To make things tougher for him, India Captain Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is also in the Test squad as a reserve opener, hit back-to-back fifties. On the other hand, KL Rahul also made a strong impact, scoring a hundred and fifty in his only game, increasing the pressure on Jaiswal ahead of the Test series against England.

Gautam Gambhir has intense talks with struggling Yashasvi Jaiswal

Meanwhile, according to a report by RevSportz, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen having animated discussions with Yashasvi Jaiswal during the team's training session in Kent, where the senior squad will play an important intra-squad match against India A from Friday.

Interestingly, Gambhir didn’t just talk to Jaiswal once but was spotted having two long conversations with the young opener. The 23-year-old batter also spent a lot of time in the nets, facing every variety of delivery, including fast, swing, and spin, to improve his game.

Well, the report didn’t mention the exact details of their talks, but it suggested that Gambhir was guiding Yashasvi Jaiswal on how to fine-tune his batting and adjust better to English conditions, which are very different from what he’s used to since he is on his debut England tour.

Gautam Gambhir orders a closed-door intra-squad match in Kent

On the other hand, a PTI report claimed that Gautam Gambhir has requested the upcoming intra-squad match in Kent to be held behind closed doors, which means no fans or media will be allowed to watch the game between Team India and India A.

The idea behind this move is to keep India’s strategies hidden from the England team, which is similar to European football clubs’ tactics during their practice sessions. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the India National Cricket Team has done something like this.

During their tour of Australia last November, the BCCI had also asked officials in Perth to keep fans and media out during a practice match, keeping all team tactics under wraps. However, India had faced an embarrassing defeat on that tour, losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia.
