New Zealand Cricket Team is on a roll after winning the 2nd Test match against England by 1 run. The Black Caps displayed never to say die attitude and skipper Tim Southee rotated his bowlers smartly. Gavin Larsen who was the selector since 2015 has stepped down from the post and is set to be the performance director at Warwickshire. Under Gavin Larsen, New Zealand was a force to reckon with in ICC events where they won the inaugural WTC 2019-21.

New Zealand hasn’t been able to dominate the WTC 2021-23 where they are placed at 8th position with a percentile of 27.27. New Zealand is all set to play 2 Test Match Series commencing from 9th March where if Sri Lanka whitewashes New Zealand, then they have a solid chance of making it to the final of WTC 2021-23.

Gavin Larsen on New Role

Gavin Larsen was pretty happy with the way New Zealand performed under his tenure.

“The past seven-and-a-half years have just flown by and I’ve relished and enjoyed every minute of it. The discussions and deliberations have always been robust and challenging but my enduring memory will always be the quality of the people I’ve worked with – from high performance right through to the administration.” said Gavin Larsen.
“WCCC is a club with an amazing history and tradition and I’m looking forward to joining the team and helping to drive the club’s ongoing success. I have a number of great memories of playing at Edgbaston during my New Zealand playing days and the atmosphere was simply terrific.” he added.

NZC on Gavin Larsen’s contribution

NZC’s GM High-Performance Bryan Stronach heaped praise on Gavin Larsen.

“Gavin was part of a support team that made a key contribution to arguably the most successful period in the history of the New Zealand men’s team. His appointment at Edgbaston reflects the respect in which he’s held around the cricketing world.” said Bryan Stronach.
New Zealand would be aware of the fact that their side had a torrid India white ball leg where they were outplayed in all the 3 facets of the game. With less than 9 months left for the ODI WC 2023, the board must make sure that all their star players are taking part in the ODIs in the lead of WC 2023.
