The 37-year-old India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has lavished praise on the 23-year-old fast-bowling all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar for smashing a ton on his Ranji Trophy debut.
Arjun, who is the son of the “The God of Cricket” Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, hit 120 runs off 207 balls on Day 2 of Goa’s Ranji Trophy 2022-23 opening game against Rajasthan. Notably, Arjun emulated his father Sachin, who had hit his maiden first-class century on his debut for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in 1988, against Gujarat.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik praised Arjun for making massive improvements in the batting department.
“I have seen Arjun quite a bit you know. He is more of a left-arm medium pacer who can bat a bit, but he definitely had credentials with the bat. You could see that he can hit a ball, but getting a hundred I think is quite special. Kudos to him, many more to the team, we generally don’t associate Arjun Tendulkar with the bat but it is good knowing that he has worked hard on his batting,” Karthik said.
Credit to him, moving states, taking that big gamble – Dinesh Karthik on Arjun Tendulkar
Notably, the 23-year-old Arjun had left Mumbai and moved to Goa at the start of the season in search of better opportunities. Before the season, he had played just two T20s for Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter Karthik credited Arjun for taking a “big gamble” by moving to Goa from Mumbai in search of more game time.
“I have seen him in England when he used to practice with the younger boys there, he had the potential to obviously do well. Credit to him, moving states, taking that big gamble and then taking in the opportunity with both hands,” Karthik added.
