Glenn Maxwell's disastrous campaign in the ongoing IPL 2024 came to an end with Royal Challengers Bengaluru's defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (May 22).
RCB came into the game as favorites after winning their previous six games in a dominating fashion. RR, on the other hand, had lost their previous four games and had not won a single game this month.
However, form counted for little as the Sanju Samson-led thrashed RCB by four wickets to knock them out of IPL 2024 and book their place in the second qualifier.
Asked to bat first, RCB posted 172 for 8 in 20 overs. While several RCB batters got the starts, none of them could convert it into a big score.
Rajat Patidar top-scored for RCB, scoring 34. In reply, RR chased down the total in 19 overs to set up a clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier.
While RCB is receiving praise from several quarters for the way they turned their campaign around and qualified for the playoffs against all the odds, Glenn Maxwell has been facing severe criticism from all around.
The Australian had the chance to redeem his season by doing well against RR in the Eliminator but came up with another disastrous display as he was dismissed for a golden duck.

The failure against RR has ended Glenn Maxwell's forgettable campaign in IPL 2024. In 10 games this season, the Australia allrounder could score only 52 runs with a top score of 28. He registered as many as four ducks in the tournament and managed to reach double-digit only twice.
Manoj Tiwary slams Glenn Maxwell:
With Glenn Maxwell failing to do well against RR, former India batsman Manoj Tiwary has come down hard on him. Not only did Tiwary heavily criticize Maxwell's performance this season but also questioned his commitment to the franchise.
Tiwary pointed out that while Maxwell performs well for Australia, he does not replicate the same performance for RCB.
"We have to come to Maxwell. It was a phase where a batter had to stay. You have so much experience in international cricket... when you play for Australia, you perform so well. But as soon as you come to IPL, I don't know what happens to him. It seems he has no interest.
"He doesn't care if he gets out, his bank balance is fine, the cheque will reach him, he will do get-togethers at night, have a laugh, and get photos clicked," Tiwary told Cricbuzz.
"What's the end result? You play to win. When RCB weren't performing well, we were sitting right here and analyzing why they weren't performing. At the end of the day, they might be happy that they won six back-to-back matches to qualify, but the end result is the trophy, which isn't there. So, the problem is there," he added.
Maxwell will be seen in action next in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be played till June 29.
