Australia’s swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has picked his top five T20I players from all time. The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is less than a month to commence and most of the players are already in the United Arab Emirates playing in the ongoing IPL 2021.
Maxwell, who is currently playing for RCB in the cash-rich league, has played 72 T20 International matches for the Australian national team since 2012.
Glenn Maxwell’s picks his T20 players of all-time
The Melbourne Stars captain named his best T20 players from all eras and he was asked to pick a spinner, two all-rounders, a wicket-keeper and a pace bowler.
Andre Russell is a big name in the shortest format and his ability to hit big sixes to turn the course of the match benefits any team in the world. Russell bolsters West Indies already star-studded batting line-up in the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE.
“Someone who’ll add anything to any T20 side,” Maxwell said in a video uploaded on International Cricket Council’s official website.
Maxwell named Ben Stokes, who is currently on a break from all forms of cricket, as the second all-rounder on his list. Stokes was part of England’s 2016 T20 World Cup campaign and is unlikely to be a part of the team for the upcoming edition of the mega event.
Afghanistan’s sensational young spinner Rashid Khan, who is currently ranked as the number three bowler in the ICC T20I rankings was included in Maxwell’s five-member list as a spin bowler.
Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Tait also included in Glenn Maxwell’s list
Maxwell named two former Australian players when it came to filling the role of a wicketkeeper-batsman and a pace bowler- Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Tait- were the choice of the Victorian all-rounder.
Gilchrist played 13 T20Is before retiring from international cricket across formats and the southpaw also led now defunct IPL franchise Deccan Chargers to the title in the 2009 edition in South Africa.
In one of the IPL match against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Tait recorded his fastest delivery speed of 157.7 while playing for Rajasthan Royals.
