Gujarat Titans (GT) had a terrible outing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 in Dharamshala, but things became even more dramatic after the match during the press conference. GT star Glenn Phillips lost his patience after being asked a question about whether the team had mentally given up during the huge chase against RCB.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have completely dominated the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 in Dharamshala by putting up a massive 254 runs on the board. In reply, Gujarat Titans collapsed badly and were bowled out for just 162. The pressure of the huge target was clearly visible on the GT batters as wickets kept falling, with only Shahrukh Khan (68) managing to score runs.
‘Silly question!’: Glenn Phillips blasts reporter after GT's crushing defeat to RCB in IPL 2026 Qualifier 1
After the crushing defeat, many were surprised to see Glenn Phillips attending the media interaction because he was not even part of the playing XI. Usually, the captain or coach comes after such big matches, but this time neither Shubman Gill nor Ashish Nehra appeared before the media.

During the post-match press conference, one reporter asked Glenn Phillips if Gujarat Titans had already accepted defeat after RCB scored massive runs in Dharamshala. The Kiwi batter immediately lost his cool and called the question “silly” and "terrible." He strongly defended GT batters by saying that no team ever enters a match thinking about surrendering and players tried their best against RCB.
Glenn Phillips said at the post-match presser, "That's a silly question. That is a really silly question. No one goes in there waiting to go, 'Oh, you know what? We're just going to give up on this one. 'Why would we do that as professional cricketers? That's a terrible question. We went out there; we gave it everything. Unfortunately, when you're trying to chase 250, everything has to go right. And we went out there to try and make everything go right, and obviously it didn't.”
Glenn Phillips reveals real reason behind GT’s batting collapse against RCB
Phillips also explained how difficult it is to chase a target above 250 in T20 cricket. He admitted that scoreboard pressure played a big role in the defeat, especially after losing early wickets. GT suffered a massive blow when Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler got out cheaply in Dharamshala.
The Kiwi star further added, “There's a huge amount of scoreboard pressure when you're trying to chase 250. And, you know, very few teams have done it. Obviously, Punjab Kings have managed to do it a couple of times, which has been phenomenal. And I think they've maybe made it seem easier than it is. I've yet to be part of a team that's gotten anywhere near 250, so, you know, sometimes it just is what it is.”

Glenn Phillips gives classy reply after journalist’s awkward query
Phillips faced another awkward moment when a journalist asked about attending the press conference despite not playing in the match. But the New Zealand star handled that calmly and explained that every player in the squad shares responsibility during difficult moments.
He signed off by saying, “No, that's fine, that's fine. It's all good. Yeah, obviously we're all part of the team together, and we all have equal media roles to play. I think sometimes an outside perspective from someone who isn't playing the game, especially for the guys that have to now go and play an Eliminator [helps]. It's really important for them to just knuckle down, get their heads where they need to be.”
