New Zealand star Glenn Phillips has another spectacular save to add to his unbelievable collection of acrobatic saves on the field after pulling off an absolute stunner.

The 27-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best fielders in the world at present and has a reputation for pulling off some of the most remarkable saves in the history of the game. And he was at it again on Sunday (July 7) while playing for Colombo Strikers against Dambulla Sixers in the ongoing Lanka Premier League 2024.

Glenn Phillips saved a certain six with an acrobatic effort during the game. On the second ball of the sixth over, veteran allrounder Thisara Perera bowled a slower off-cutter to Dambulla Sixers openers Kusal Perera and the latter decided to play a pull shot.

Perera made a good connection with the ball, hitting it towards deep mid-wicket. The ball looked destined to go for a six but Glenn Phillips had other ideas. The Kiwi star made a full-length dive and caught the ball with his left hand before throwing it back on the field all while being airborne as he realised that the momentum would take him over the boundary cushion. While he could not complete the catch, he did save 5 precious runs for his side.

Talking about the game, Dambulla Sixers beat Colombo Strikers by eight wickets to register their first win of the season. The Sixers started their campaign with three losses in a row before beating Strikers to open their account.

Asked to bat first, the Strikers scored 185/6 in 20 overs with Glenn Phillips impressing with the bat as well. The right-handed batsman top-scored for his side, scoring 52 runs off 32 balls. His effort, however, went in vain as the fifties from Reeza Hendricks and Kusal Perera powered the Sixers to a big win. Hendricks scored 54 while Perera scored 80.

"Overall team performance today. We discussed in the team meetings as a bowling group we have to give less boundaries. Last game we gave 12 or 14 boundaries which was too much. In the middle we did really well with both spinners and fast bowlers, took wickets and we restricted them.

"Tried to take it away from the batters, varied the pace and did not try to bowl stump to stump. It is easy to hit from the stumps and not when you bowl it away from off stump. That was my plan and that's why I was successful," said Sixers captain Thisara Perera after the game.
