New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips, who is part of the Gujarat Titans (GT), is set to miss the remainder of IPL 2025 due to a groin injury. The Gujarat Titans have made an official statement on the all-rounder’s injury, adding that he has returned to New Zealand and won’t be part of the remainder of the season.
Glenn Phillips was a key performer for New Zealand during the Champions Trophy, where they finished as runners-up to India. The Gujarat Titans secured him at his base price of Rs 2 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, Phillips has yet to feature in any of the Titans' matches this season.
Glenn Phillips Suffers Groin Injury While Fielding as a Substitute
Glenn Phillips suffered a groin injury while fielding as a substitute during the IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. The injury occurred during the last over of the powerplay. Phillips, who was covering the point region, attempted to throw the ball and appeared to have strained his groin.
The 28-year-old collapsed on the field in pain, and the Gujarat Titans' physio quickly rushed to assist him. After a long delay, Phillips was helped off the field by a teammate for further treatment.
"Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery," a statement from the Gujarat Titans read (Via Cricbuzz).

Glenn Phillips and Kagiso Rabada Become Unavailable
Gujarat Titans have been hit by the unavailability of two overseas players in IPL 2025. Kagiso Rabada left the squad earlier on April 3 to attend to a personal emergency in South Africa. The team has yet to announce a replacement for either player, and Rabada’s return date remains uncertain.
The Titans have only five overseas players in their squad, including Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat. Buttler, Rutherford, and Rashid have featured in all matches so far.
Coetzee is still recovering from an injury that kept him out of the SA20 and the Champions Trophy. The squad had just seven foreign players, one short of the permitted limit of eight, and is now further depleted.
Gujarat Titans at the Top of the IPL 2025 Points Table
Gujarat Titans are currently at the top of the points table with eight points from five matches. They lost their opening game against Punjab Kings but bounced back with four consecutive wins against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals.
The Titans will aim to continue their winning streak when they face Lucknow Super Giants on April 12. Sai Sudharsan has scored 273 runs at an average of 54.60 and a strike rate of 151.66, while bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Sai Kishore have picked up 10 wickets each.
Lucknow Super Giants have also shown promising form, securing three wins from five matches, including back-to-back victories in their last two outings.
