Former England National Cricket Team captain Jos Buttler has brutally roasted his Gujarat Titans (GT) teammate and the India National Cricket Team all-rounder, Washington Sundar.
Jos Buttler humiliated Washington Sundar over his cocky claim of India winning the third Test match against England at Lord's, which they eventually lost.
Washington Sundar's overconfident remarks come back to bite him
After equalling England's first innings score, India delivered an exceptional performance with the ball in the third innings of the match to bundle out the Three Lions for 192.
Chasing the target of 193 runs on Day 4, India got off to a decent start, but by the end of the day's play, they lost four wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, and Akash Deep for 58 runs.
With 6 wickets still in hand, India fancied their chances for a historic Test win at Lord's on Day 5. All-rounder Washington Sundar, who was full of confidence after decimating England's batting unit with his four-wicket haul, went on to make a big claim after the end of the play on Day 4.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Washington Sundar bluntly predicted India's comprehensive win, saying, "Definitely India winning tomorrow, probably in the first session. Probably just after lunch."
That, however, didn't happen as India were awful with the bat on the fifth day and despite Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah's fightback, the visitors got bowled out for 170, facing a 22-run loss.
That would have got people so fired up - Jos Buttler
Speaking after the match, Jos Buttler said that Washington Sundar's remarks fired up the English team on the final day.
“Has he actually said that? Washington Sundar's interview where he says about, you know, when India win tomorrow, when we go 2-1 up. And I thought, I wonder if he's just sort of, you know, got his words out wrong, you know, hopefully we'll win.
"But it was the proper, you know, incredible confidence. Yeah, we're going to win. And it's always one of those moments where you're like, you don't miss a thing, do you, in this day and age? Someone will have heard about that in the dressing room. It's almost like instead of anyone having to say anything this morning for England you could have just played that interview and that would have got people so fired up,” he said, while speaking on a YouTube show.
McCullum over the balcony sort of you know telling everyone to raise it - Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler further highlighted how England's head coach, Brendon McCullum, gestured from the Lord's balcony to his team to start chirping as soon as Washington Sundar arrived in the middle to get under his skin. Buttler felt that Sundar made himself the target with his comments, and it was a horrible thing to do.
"There's a little clip of when Washington came out to bat and McCullum over the balcony sort of you know telling everyone to raise it, it's the guy who's been chirping.
“You set yourself up, don't you? It's horrible. But you're like, no, everyone's all over me. I could have just come out here and tried to, you know, have a good game and try my best. But now everyone knows that what I've said in the media last night, and this is going to be, everyone's after me. Even McCullum, who's possibly the only time he didn't have his feet up. He's leant forward to say, come on. Let's ramp it up for this guy,” he added.
