Delhi Capitals (DC) batting coach Pravin Amre revealed why the team is sending Axar Patel down the order in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that the all-rounder has the ability to finish the games and they need some down the order.
All-rounder Axar Patel has been the shining light for the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2023. The Southpaw has looked like the most settled batter from their team and has made a vital contribution in almost every game.

In the last game against SRH, DC were cruising at the one stage while chasing the target with Mitchell Marsh and Phil Salt stitching a 12-run partnership for the second wicket. But after that, they lost wickets in clusters and yet again Patel was sent at 7.

Axar Patel came to bat when DC needed 58 off 26 balls. The all-rounder tried his best but didn’t get the desired support as DC lost the match by 9 runs. He remained unbeaten at 29 runs in just 14 balls with the help of 1 six and 2 fours.
Pravin Amre said that the all-rounder has the ability to finish the game and that is why they are holding him back. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“Axar has the ability to finish the game. We need someone to play the finisher’s role. He has struck the highest number of sixes for us this season. Therefore, we have to hold him back sometimes, so that he can play the finisher’s role in the batting order.”
GT vs LSG: “Many teams have made comebacks after a poor start in IPL,” Pravin Amre optimistic about DC making a comeback
It’s fair to say that DC is the weakest team in the IPL this season. They are reeling at the bottom of the table with just 2 wins under their belt. It’s almost difficult for them to make a comeback with the kind of traffic jam it has been on the table.
But Pravin Amre feels that they will give their best and are optimistic about making a comeback. He elaborated:
“Many teams have made comebacks after a poor start in the IPL. That’s the beauty of this tournament. Any team can beat any side. That’s why we have to give our best. It’s going to be challenging for us to play against Gujarat. But you never know, what can happen in the IPL.
“We have to stay in the present and focus on taking the two points in our next game. Our middle order has to bat better and we’ll look to improve our batting in the death overs.”
Delhi Capitals (DC) will be next seen in action when they will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next game on Tuesday (2nd May) at the Narendra Modi International Stadium.
