Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has been fined INR 24 Lakhs from his match fees against CSK last night for maintaining a slow over rate.

This was Gujarat Titans and Shubman Gill's second offense of slow over rate and therefore the franchise captain was fined 24 Lakhs. Since it was the team's second offense of this sort, all of the players that featured in last night's game in Ahmedabad were also sanctioned by the rule makers.

Shubman Gill pays fine after scoring his first IPL 2024 century

It was a double delight for Shubman Gill last night in the replay of the IPL 2023 final against the Chennai Super Kings. The night started in the best way possible for Gill himself as well as for Gujarat Titans. The 24-year-old had a different opening pair as Wriddhiman Saha was dropped due to his poor form with Sai Sudharsan coming to open with the franchise captain.

And the duo did not disappoint in their first instance of opening together. Both of them, who are known for their ability to play textbook cricketing shots, remained true to their basics and played in a certain style of cricket which was very much required from them.

The duo gave no chance at all to the CSK bowlers and kept on ruling over the opposition throughout their presence in the crease. Shubman Gill was the first to score his century, which was not only his first of the season but also the 100th Hundred in Indian Premier League history.

Back in 2008, IPL legend Brendon McCullum had scored the league's first-ever full century in the very first game between KKR and the RCB. McCullum had smashed 158 runs and kicked off the richest cricketing league's era in the best way possible. Since then many more players have scored centuries but it was Shubman Gill who scored the exclusive 100th Hundred of IPL.

His knock included 9 fours and 6 sixes and shortly after the completion of his century, Sai Sudharsan completed his first-ever IPL century. The left-hand batter, who is originally from Tamil Nadu, also smashed the league's 101st Ton but most importantly, he stitched a sensational 210-run partnership with Shubman Gill for the first wicket.

While Gill left the crease for 104 off 55, Sudharsan left the middle in the same over for a score of 103 off 51. As a result of their efforts, GT posted 232 as the target which CSK missed out by 35 runs but after the match, Gill's delight was shortened with an INR 24 Lakhs fine.

However, the 24-year-old won't mind paying the sum as his side had got the job done after losing 3 back-to-back matches.

Gill expresses dissatisfaction with scoring 231

While speaking in the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill expressed his dissatisfaction with scoring 231 runs as he felt his side was still 10-15 runs short. Gill claimed that he was looking for a total of 250 but CSK's decent comeback in the death overs restricted them to 230s.

"At one point we thought 250 was there for the taking. In the last 2-3 overs they bowled well also. Just had a feeling we were 10-15 short, not in terms of the match but in terms of the NRR going forward." - Gill said during the post-match presentation.
