Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers recalled how his father recognized the potential of Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill 3 years back. He lauded the batter for making the game easy and said that now he realizes what his dad saw back then.
Shubman Gill has taken world cricket by storm since he earned his spot in the Indian team on the back of solid domestic performances. In just a short span of time, he has become a vital cog in the Indian team and a lot depends on him now despite some big names in the team.

Shubman Gill is currently the orange cap holder in the league and has amassed over 815 runs in the season. The batter has smashed three centuries in the league with his third one coming in the ongoing Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians.

AB de Villiers heaped up rich praise for Shubman Gill for his performances in the IPL 2023. He said that the batter makes batting look easy and he is his dad’s favorite. Speaking to Jio Cinema, he said:
“It’s incredible, he makes the game look very easy. I think he has got so much time at the crease. I mentioned it early on in the season that he is my dad’s favourite player. Probably about 3 years ago, I was like ‘what are you seeing in him?’
“Now I know what he saw in him. Very exciting talent for Indian cricket. I can’t wait to watch him in all 3 formats for India. He has got the potential and the skill to really get good numbers in the future.”

Shubman Gill played a staggering knock against RCB as he smashed his maiden ton and knocked the opposition out of the tournament.
AB de Villiers lauded Shubman Gill for his ton and said that his strike rate during that innings was impressive. He explained:
“We saw that hundred against RCB. I watched it from home and I got very excited. What is the most exciting about that hundred is the strike rate. If you get a 100 in around 50 balls, you are more likely to win the game for the team.” He concluded.
