I Had Sensed That Sachin Tendulkar Was Disturbed - Ratnakar Shetty Reveals Jarring Details During Tendulkar's Captaincy Stint

Former BCCI administrator Ratnakar Shetty revealed details about the dressing room atmosphere during Sachin Tendulkar’s stint as the captain from 1996 to 2000. Tendulkar led the team in 98 matches where they managed to win only 27 games.
During this time, there were several players who were ‘deliberately’ ineptitude and this was only revealed after a while. Shetty said that some of the dismissals in the 50-over format were ‘weird’.
“Having spent a lot of time with Sachin in Sri Lanka, I had sensed that he was disturbed. He wasn’t enjoying the captaincy and I was by no means the only individual who felt that all wasn’t well.”

“There were times when information pertaining to the trajectory of games that we were yet to play, would reach us and leave us wondering. The timing of some dismissals, especially in the ODIs, was weird, to say the least,” the Indian Express quoted Shetty as writing in his book On Board: Test.Trial.Triumph. My years in BCCI.
“The entire purpose of the meeting had been defeated” – Ratnakar Shetty
Shetty went on write about a meeting that Tendulkar and himself attended with the then BCCI President, Raj Singh Dungarpur. No other team member was informed about the meeting but Mohammad Azharuddin happened to come across this information.
“Sachin and I went to meet Rajbhai and (Jaywant) Lele. We discussed the tour, the Rashid Latif interview and the rumours that had been doing the rounds. Imagine my shock then to receive a call later that night from none other than Azharuddin, enquiring about our meeting with the BCCI president and secretary.”
