Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has slammed ex-Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq after an old claim from the latter went viral on social media. The Pakistan players, especially those who have retired from international cricket, have a tendency of making some audacious and bizarre claims every now and then.
Some players have found themselves in hot water for attempting to convert opposing players to Islam. A user on X recently posted a thread highlighting various instances when Pakistani players tried to persuade opponents to embrace Islam.
Inzamam-ul-Haq also did something similar in the past as his claim about Harbhajan Singh went viral. In the video, the Pakistan legend stated that Harbhajan Singh was impressed with Maulana Tariq Jameel and even contemplated converting to Islam.
“We had a room where prayers were conducted. Maulana Tariq Jameel used to visit us in the evening and lead us into a namaz. After a few days, Irfan Pathan, Mohammad Kaif and Zaheer Khan also started coming. Four other Indian cricketers sat and watched us,” he said.
“Harbhajan, who was unaware that Tariq Jameel was a maulana, said that ‘I am impressed with this man and want to follow his words’,” added Inzamam-ul-Haq.

With the video going viral, Harbhajan Singh noticed it and decided to react. The former cricketer-turned-commentator did not mince his words as he slammed Inzamam-ul-Haq and stated that he is a proud Indian and proud sikh, writing:
“Yeh kon sa nasha pee kar baat kar raha hai ? I am a proud Indian and proud Sikh..yeh Bakwaas log kuch bi bakte hai”
Inzamam-ul-Haq recently stepped down as the chief selector of the Pakistan team after the World Cup debacle. There were also allegations of conflict of interest against him. The Babar Azam-led side failed to qualify for the semifinals and crashed out at the semifinals stage. They finished their campaign with 4 wins and 5 defeats. Pakistan have not qualified for the World Cup semifinals since 2011.
