The former Indian spinner and commentator Harbhajan Singh has shown interest in taking up a big role in Indian cricket in the future. Harbhajan Singh has openly said that he is ready to work as the head coach or chief selector if he gets an opportunity.
The 2011 World Cup winner even said that he would be happy to serve Indian cricket in any important role. His comments came when the changes in Indian cricket were on the cards.
Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has been criticized after some poor results, while chief selector Ajit Agarkar has also faced questions over some decisions, and his tenure is also set to end next month. It is also being reported that VVS Laxman is being considered for a bigger role.
Harbhajan Singh wants to serve Indian cricket

He was also considered a possible option for India's head coach role after Rahul Dravid's tenure ended after the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, Harbhajan did not apply for the position.
Now, the former Indian spinner has made it clear that he would love to work for Indian cricket if the right opportunity comes. He is open to different roles. It could be the BCCI president's position, chief selector or head coach. His main aim is to use his experience and help Indian cricket.

Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying by PTI: “It is not like I want to hold all three roles in the future, but I believe whatever is in my destiny, I will get it. If I ever get a chance to hold any such role, where I can do something for Indian cricket, I will be very, very happy to do it.
It is my wish that I could somehow give something back to this game that has given me a lot. So, whether it be the role of BCCI President, selector, or head coach, I would love to be of any use to Indian cricket; I will be very happy to do it.”
Harbhajan Singh defends Gautam Gambhir
Interestingly, Harbhajan has come out in support of the current Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir amid the criticism. The Indian team has recently suffered many embarrassments across the formats, and Gambhir has been blamed for the same. But Harbhajan feels it is not fair to put all the responsibility on the coach whenever a team does not perform well.
The former spinner added, “Why is Gautam getting so much flak? I have never understood why when a team doesn't do well, people always tend to blame the coach. The Gautam that I have known was a very passionate player of his time, one who always put the team first.”
'Bohot Badhiya Banda hai woh'
The cricket pundit feels Gambhir's straight way of speaking sometimes creates problems for him. Harbhajan signed off by saying, “Bohot Badhiya Banda hai woh (Gautam is a top guy). He is very straightforward. For many people, Gautam might say bitter things, but what he speaks is the bitter truth. Now, many people can't digest the truth, and perhaps the tone of his comments makes people feel that he is a slightly difficult person.”
