Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh reflected on the poor campaign of Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He said that ex-players like Wasim Akram, and Waqar Younis, who left a great legacy behind, wonder where they left the team and where it has reached.

In what was a horrible campaign, the Pakistan National Cricket Team suffered a group exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Green under the leadership of Babar Azam failed to reach the Super 8- stage as they performed terribly with the bat and ball.

It was a most threatening start for Pakistan as they faced a loss against the United States of America. They went on to lose the game in the super over and started off the tournament in a losing way. It was expected that they would come up with a better performance in the next game but the same story continued.

Pakistan went on to lose against India as they faced a 6-run loss. It came as a heartbreak for them because they were in the winning position for most of the game. However, they couldn't finish the match as Indian bowlers held their nerves and snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat.

Two back-to-back losses meant Pakistan were hanging by thread in the tournament. They were then dependent on Ireland to beat the United States of America but washout in the game between the two teams meant curtains for the Babar Azam-led side in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Harbhajan Singh pointed out that Pakistan had their fate in their own hands but with the way they played, they didn't deserve to reach the Super 8 stage. He highlighted how Babar Azam-led side lost to the USA in a 20-over contest as well as the Super over. He also wasn't confident about their chances against Ireland. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained:

"They had their fate in their hands. The way they have played so far, they didn’t deserve to qualify for the Super 8. On the contrary, the USA have played brilliantly and made their presence felt.

"They played Pakistan twice, in a 20-over game followed by a 6-ball match-up and they beat they thrashed them on both occasions and proved themselves. And mind you, it wasn’t a fluke. They still have a game left against Ireland and we don’t what kind of a Pakistan team will play in that game."

Kahan chhod kar Gaye the team ko aur aaj kahan par hai - Harbhajan Singh in Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and other players criticising Pakistan on social media

Harbhajan Singh also talked about why legends of Pakistan cricket in Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and others speak about the team's performance on social media, saying that they are hurt because they left the team on high. He added that Pakistan Cricket needs to revamp. He elaborated:

"If we speak about Wasim Bhai, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, Inzamam-ul-Haq… these are the legends of Pakistan. They have left a legacy behind. They often take to social media and speak about the current team.

"Just because they feel bad about what’s going on. Kahan chhod kar Gaye the team ko aur aaj kahan par hai (Where had we left the team and where has it reached). They are getting beaten by Ireland, by USA… teams which don’t have a big name for them. I think, it’s a tough phase and the Pakistan team needs a revamp,” Harbhajan concluded.
