Harbhajan Singh bought by KKR for his base price in IPL 2021 auction
Harbhajan Singh was roped in by the Kolkata Knight Riders for his base price of Rs. 2 crore in the IPL 2021 auction. KKR would be the third franchise ‘Bhajji’ will feature for after spending 10 seasons with Mumbai Indians, and the 2 playing for Chennai Super Kings. Harbhajan pulled out of the tournament last season – which was held in UAE amidst the covid-19 pandemic – due to personal reasons.
He won 2013, 2015, and 2017 IPL titles with Mumbai Indians, and the 2018 IPL trophy under MS Dhoni at CSK. The 40-year-old has picked 150 IPL scalps at an economy of 7.08.
After missing out on last season, and also not playing domestic cricket, Harbhajan Singh, who last played for India in March 2016, would find it difficult to break in KKR’s eleven in the presence of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Shakib Al Hasan, and Kuldeep Yadav.
However, the form and fitness of the other spinner are always in question. Not only that, but Harbhajan also brings in vast experience.
Eoin Morgan, often regarded as an astute skipper, and someone whose decisions are often data-driven would use the right-arm off-spinner for certain match-ups – such as against left-handed openers in the powerplay as MS Dhoni use to utilize him at CSK.
KKR, the two-time champions, will begin their campaign against David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
