"Hardly Makes A Difference": Prithvi Shaw Reacts To 'Critics' After Ranji Trophy Double Ton

Prithvi Shaw scored an unbeaten 240 in the Ranji Trophy match against Assam. It is the opening batter’s highest score in First-Class cricket.

Speaking to Indian Express after the match, the attacking opening hitter claimed that he is delighted with the manner he has been batting, and the only thing missing was a ‘big score’.

In the Ranji Trophy game between Mumbai and Assam on Tuesday, Prithvi Shaw, one of the most reliable performers in the domestic arena, once again put his ability on display and stunned the world with his unbroken 240-run effort. Shaw, who made his India debut at the age of 18, has fallen out of the Indian cricket picture for a number of reasons.

The opening batter keeps getting passed over due to on-field missteps, injuries, and selection rejections, but Shaw doesn’t have time to think about those “who left him when he was at a low place.”

“When runs were not happening, people just used to keep talking. I used to ignore them. There is no importance of people who left me during my tough days,” he explained.

“Whatever detractors say, it hardly makes a difference. I knew what I was doing right, and what I was doing wrong. I was focused on my process and how I handle myself. I am mature enough to know that I needn’t address these people,” Shaw elaborated.

When young players struggle to find form, they frequently seek assistance from seniors. But it was Shaw’s inner voice that helped him regain his mojo in red-ball cricket.

“I didn’t talk to many people since I was too busy picturing things. I spent some time watching old videos of myself batting. I was alone thinking about what was going on and realized what I was doing well and what I wasn’t doing well” Prithvi Shaw said.

“I was following my procedures and doing everything correctly. But I was aware that it (running) does not always occur, and that it does occur on occasion, ” Prithvi Shaw Added.

Mumbai defeated Assam on Tuesday to end the day at 416/2. On Wednesday, when the action resumes, they plan to raise that total.
