Harmanpreet Kaur Likely To Be Handed Two-Match Ban In Asian Games For Her Behavior In Bangladesh

In what has been the latest development as per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that Indian women captain Harmanpreet Kaur is likely to be handed a two-match ban in the upcoming Asian Games 2023 for her behavior in the recently concluded third ODI against Bangladesh women.

Harmanpreet Kaur hogged the headlines for her antics at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on July 22. She was furious after umpires gave wrong decisions in India’s favor, which saw them losing the game. What caught the attention of many was when she was given lbw, her anger got better off her.

Harmanpreet Kaur hit the stumps in frustration as she mentioned that the ball hit the bat first. She then accused umpires of ‘pathetic’ decision-making in the post-match presentation and also reportedly slammed the Bangladesh team during the trophy collection ceremony, saying that they should bring umpires along.

Harmanpreet Kaur is likely to receive three demerit points for stump damage and one demerit point for criticizing the match officials in public. This will lead to her getting four demerit points as per which player will miss two games and it can be the quarterfinal and semifinal of the Asian Games as Indian women are next slated to play these two games.

According to the relevant ICC code of conduct rule, “When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points, resulting in a ban. Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player. Demerit Points remain on a player’s disciplinary record for 24 months from their imposition, after which they will be expunged.”

ICC likely To Announce sanctions on Harmanpreet Kaur on Monday (30th July)

The reports also suggested that ICC will announce sanctions on Harmanpreet Kaur on Monday (30th July). It is learned that the match officials have submitted the report to the ICC as well as the BCCI.

Both the governing bodies are in talks related to the issues. After the sanctions are announced, Harmanpreet will have the right to appeal, in which case the ICC match referee will conduct a hearing.
