Star England batter Harry Brook has stated that he is not in a hurry to be England's captain at the moment. Brook is set to lead Northern Superchargers in The Hundred and will be one of the candidates to lead England if current white-ball captain Jos Buttler is sacked from his role.

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler and head coach Matthew Mott are under serious pressure after the team failed to defend its title in the T20 World Cup 2024.

England had a mixed campaign in the tournament as they finished second in the group stage. Despite a narrow defeat to South Africa in Super 8, England managed to qualify for the semi-finals.

But their campaign came to an end when they lost to the eventual champions India in the semi-finals. Jos Buttler and his men were far from their best on the day as they lost the match by 68 runs.

Harry Brook on his aspirations for England captaincy

On the event of the third Test against West Indies, Harry Brook spoke about his first captaincy stint which will take place in The Hundred.

"This is my first captaincy role with the Superchargers. We'll see how that goes and then maybe I'll have a different answer in a couple of months," Brook was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I don't see anything happening any time soon, so I'll just stay in the moment and focus on Test cricket," he added.

Brook has been a key part of England's sides in all the formats. He can play aggressively which sits perfectly according to the modern English mindset. The 25-year-old is a highly talented batter and is someone who can serve England for a long time.

"Test cricket is my priority" - Harry Brook has his priorities sorted

Harry Brook expressed his desire to play every possible Test match for England. He claimed that Test cricket is still his priority and his main focus is just to stay at the present and not go too far ahead.

"I want to play every Test match I can for England. Test cricket is my priority. I don't want to think too far ahead. The Ashes is a long way away and we have a lot of Test cricket before then. My main focus is to stay in the moment and not get ahead of myself," said Brook.

Harry Brook just smashed a brilliant hundred in the second Test match against West Indies. This was his first international hundred on his home ground. He scored a magnificent 109 off 132 balls, which included 13 fours.

"I'll be a fairly chilled captain" - Harry Brook on his captaincy stint with Northern Superchargers

Recently, it was reported that Eoin Morgan has been approached to replace Matthew Mott as England's white-ball head coach but Morgan has distanced himself from such reports saying that he has a young family and will concentrate on commentary duties now.

Meanwhile, Jos Buttler ruled himself out of The Hundred due to a calf injury. He was due to lead Manchester Originals in this year's Hundred competition.

When asked about his upcoming captaincy stint with Northern Superchargers, Brook stated clearly that he will be a chilled captain and wants to give the players the freedom to express themselves.

"Fred just asked me if I wanted to be captain, he thought I'd do a decent job, so we'll see how we go. I'll be a fairly chilled captain. We've said that all training will be optional. There's nothing put on you as a player. Just be chilled, relaxed, go out there and express yourself and play," Brook concluded.
