Former Indian cricketer-turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has lauded the blooded-mindedness and the ‘never say die attitude’ of the inexperienced Indian bowling.

With all the frontline bowlers injured, India went into the four and final Test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy with a severely inexperienced attack. The combined experience of a total of four Tests coming into the Test match meant that the bowlers had their task cut-out against a star-studded Australian batting-unit.

However, the Indian bowlers have given a great account of themselves in both the innings of the Gabba Test. While the first innings saw the likes of T Natarajan, Shardul Thakur, and Washington Sundar chip-in with three wickets apiece, ensuring that Australia was bowled out for 369.

Then, in the second innings, the bowling attack, especially the pacers, did not get off to the best of starts with openers David Warner and Marcus Harris cashing-in on the inconsistent line and length.

However, Shardul Thakur (4/61) and Mohammed Siraj (5/73) ensured that the visitors once again staged a resounding comeback. Shardul Thakur bounced out Marcus Harris at the stroke of the first drinks break before Washington Sundar joined the party as trapped David Warner plumb in front of wickets.

Siraj then came back for his second spell and he immediately made an impact as he removed Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Wade within the space of 3 deliveries.

The duo continued to chip away at the wickets throughout the day, reducing Australia to 9/278. At the fall of the ninth wicket, both Siraj and Shardul had four wickets apiece, and a battle ensued between the duo as to who would claim their maiden fifth-wicket haul.

Eventually, it was Mohammed Siraj, who won the battle as Josh Hazlewood chipped it straight to third-man, giving Shardul Thakur a regulation catch. Not only did Indian showed skill, grit, and character, they also displayed immense bravery as Navdeep Saini came out to bowl despite being hampered by a groin niggle

Manjrekar took to Twitter where he lauded the ‘never say die attitude’ of the inexperienced bowling group.

“Hats off! Just hats off to this Indian bowling attack for the spirit they have shown in this Test. Second innings too! Same dogged, never say die spirit. Saini too with a severe groin strain bowling gamely for his captain. Respect ??? #AUSvIND
