Glenn Maxwell scored a double-century to help the team register a three-wicket victory at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 7. The right-handed batter rescued the team from 91/7. He scored 201 runs off 128 deliveries, including 21 boundaries and 10 sixes.
Glenn Maxwell Is The Best ODI Player Right Now – Wasim Akram
Speaking to A Sports, Wasim Akram expressed his amazement at Glenn Maxwell’s extraordinary performance, admitting that he had never witnessed a similar knock throughout his 40-year association with cricket.
“Maxwell showed the world, that he is the best one-day player right now in world cricket. This is unbelievable, I have never heard of this kind of knock before. I have played cricket for 20 years, worked in cricket for another 20 years and I have never seen anything like this before,” Akram said.
Glenn Maxwell’s double century was the second-fastest in ODIs and the highest score by a non-opener in ODIs. This marked his second century in the ongoing ICC tournament. The destructive batter scored a record-breaking hundred against the Netherlands.
Have To Credit Pat Cummins As Well – Wasim Akram
The former Pakistan skipper commended Glenn Maxwell’s exceptional individual performance, describing it as a “one-man show”. Akram also praised Pat Cummins for his role in the partnership, emphasizing his situational awareness.
“One man show, stuff of the legends. There is a saying, one guy can’t win you a game and obviously what an absolute lie. You have to have heart, to keep on playing despite having cramps,” Akram further added.
“They are very very painful and they do not get away. You have to credit the captain as well. When you talk about situation awareness, that what exactly what he did. 12 runs off 68 balls, he was giving the strike to his main player.”
Maxwell and Pat Cummins formed an unbeaten 203-run partnership for the eighth wicket. Cummins scored 12 runs off 68 deliveries, providing crucial support by holding his end without playing rash shots.
