The India A National Cricket Team won the recently concluded Tri-Series in Sri Lanka. In the List A match, Tilak Varma’s side defeated the Sri Lanka side by 66 runs. It all started with the rampage of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who struck at a strike rate of over 300 in a 50-over game as he scored a brilliant 94 off 29 deliveries.

India posted a mammoth total of 377 runs in the final, with skipper Tilak also contributing in the middle order. The Southpaw played a knock of 67 runs off 90 balls, smashing four boundaries and one six. After his slow innings, many fans and others have questioned his strike rate and his performances as well.

Tilak Varma finishes off as the second-highest scorer

However, Tilak Varma scored a total of 275 runs in 5 List A matches. He finished as the tournament’s second-highest run-getter, averaging 55.00 with four half-centuries. However, some believed that he was not in full flow and had criticized his performances.

After several criticisms, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has come to his rescue and has backed the young batter for playing his part in the team. He has called out the critics seeking answers as to whether the latter is performing or not, and asked them to let him go, as he does not need to play aggressively like Sooryavanshi.

Tilak Varma complimented him- R Ashwin backs Tilak

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, "I noticed one thing about Tilak Varma's batting. Tilak Varma did batting and did it at a slow strike rate. I am thinking in my mind, how does he get the hit rate? How does he do all this? He does perform, doesn't he?"

"Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did batting so fast. Tilak Varma complimented him and he also scored a big score. What is this? I mean, there has to be a little bit of balance anyway."

This was the first time Tilak led the side across formats in international cricket. He will be super proud and might have learned from the mistakes, and will also be learning further in the upcoming years. After India’s resounding victory over Sri Lanka, the Southpaw was happy with the team’s performance and praised everyone and pointed out that Vaibhav changed the game in the power play.

Tilak continues to impress

After the match, he stated, "Yeah, absolutely. Everyone has shown their real character in this tournament, especially when we lost against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka back-to-back games. And from there, winning with a large margin and showing that attitude on the field was tremendous."

"(Can I ask you what's the secret?) Definitely, everyone has played domestic games in their own state. So everyone has the experience, and it's just a matter of a moment and planning just before coming to the game. If you see the way we play in the powerplay and in between 10 to 40, and again we'll just accelerate and again we go on."

Recently, Tilak won the player-of-the-match award in the TG20 league, where he helped Medak Falcons to a thrilling three-wicket victory over Warangal Warriors in the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s TG20 tournament as he scored 136* off 59 deliveries while chasing a target of 259 runs. He will be up against Ireland and England as vice-captain.
