Indian captain Virat Kohli was full of praise for champion off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin after the Tamil Nadu cricketer became the second-fastest bowler in the history of red-ball cricket to claim 400 wickets during India’s ten-wicket win at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

When asked about Ashwin in the post-match presentation, Virat Kohli said that the entire world should stand up and take notice of what the off-spinner has achieved during his Test career. The Indian captain hailed Ravichandran Ashwin as a ‘modern-day legend’, adding that he is glad that the off-spinner is a part of his team.

Coming back to Ravichandran Ashwin, the moment that everybody had been waiting for finally came in the second session of what turned out to be the final day of the pink-ball Test when he trapped Jofra Archer plumb in front of the wicket.

And, by doing that, the legendary tweaker became the second-fastest bowler in the history of the game to claim 400 Test wickets. Ashwin has taken just 77 Tests to achieve the landmark; only Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan has achieved the feat quicker than the Tamil Nadu cricketer. Murali claimed his 400th wicket in just 72 Tests.

Ashwin has joined the likes of Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, and Harbhajan Singh as just the fourth Indian bowler to claim 400 Test wickets. He has also joined an elite list that includes Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, Rangana Herath, and the duo of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh as far as spinners who have breached the Mount.400 barrier in red-ball cricket.

”I think we need to stand up and take notice of what Ashwin has done. In Tests, he is a modern-day legend. As a captain, I am so pleased he is in my team,” Virat Kohli said in the post-match presentation.
