Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman and selector, Saba Karim, has said that the young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is a special player and has the ability to single-handedly win the matches for India National Cricket Team.

The 24-year-old left-handed batter Rishabh Pant has established himself as the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman across all three formats. So far he has played 31 Tests, 26 ODIs and 50 T20Is. His numbers in the white-ball format are mediocre but he has got sensational numbers in the purest format of the game – Test cricket.

He has scored 5 centuries and 10 half-centuries for India in Test cricket with his best score being 159. Pant also played a key role in India’s historic victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21.

Rishabh Pant, who is the captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is looked at as the next captain of the India National Cricket Team.

He made his captaincy debut, last month, in the five-match T20I series against South Africa. Notably, he was appointed as vice-captain of the team and KL Rahul was named as captain in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who was rested.

However, Rahul suffered a groin injury and got ruled out of the series, which allowed Pant to don the leadership hat. He lost his first two games as skipper but ended up winning the next two games and the series ended in a 2-2 draw after the last game was washed out.

I believe that he can emerge as a big player for India in all three formats – Saba Karim

Karim feels that Pant will emerge as a big player for India National Cricket Team across all three formats. He also believes that Pant can lead India in the future.

“Pant is a special player and has match-winning abilities. I believe that he can emerge as a big player for India in all three formats. Looking at his performances overseas, we can say that he is a possible candidate for the next captain.

“But I think every player should focus on giving match-winning performances and not on getting the captain’s hat,” Karim told Jagran TV.
