"He Is A Wonderful Player Of Spin" - Kevin Pietersen Heaps Praise On Virat Kohli During The Ashes Series

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen praised ace Indian batter Virat Kohli during Day 4 of the first Test of the ongoing Ashes at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Monday, June 19. Kevin Pietersen termed Virat Kohli a wonderful player of spin because of his conventional cricket shots.
Kevin Pietersen’s comments came after former England captain Joe Root was stumped out in england’s second innings in the match. Root was stumped for the first time in his cricket history after 130 Tests. The right-handed batter got out of Nathan Lyon’s bowling after scoring 46 runs off 55 balls.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kevin Pietersen said that Virat Kohli doesn’t come down the track against spinners and uses his wrists very well.
“He [Virat Kohli] is a wonderful player of spin, and you sort of understand it because they play spin off the back foot and have such beautiful wrists,” Kevin Pietersen told Sky Sports.
“You hardly ever see Virat running down, charging, and going all guns blazing, and he certainly doesn’t sweep, reverse sweep. I mean, you can watch him bat. Mentally, you can see him batting there, so you can sort of understand that,” he added.
Virat Kohli has represented India in 109 matches in the longer format of the game and has only been stumped once in his career. Kohli was stumped for the first time in his career by Todd Murphy’s bowling during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.

The Old Art Of Having To Use Your Feet Against Spin Is Gone – Kumar Sangakkara
During the same discussion, Kumar Sangakkara highlighted that Virat Kohli plays risk-free cricket and said that the Indian batter has the ability to score runs without leaving the crease.
“He [Kohli] is also a kind of IPL mode, isn’t it? A lot of these players are very happy step-hitting from the crease,” Sangakkara said.
“So, they don’t allow bowlers to bowl on a length, so the old art of having to use your feet against spin is gone, or they don’t do it anymore. You drop down and work a single. No, just stay in the crease and hit it out of the park. That’s true,” he added.
Virat Kohli will be next seen in action during India’s tour of the West Indies next month. India will tour the West Indies for two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is, which are set to be played between July 12 and August 13.
