“He Used To Use Very Heavy Bats Then,” Sourav Ganguly’s Special Wish For Sachin Tendulkar On His 50th Birthday

Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly passed a very special message for his old teammate Sachin Tendulkar on his 50th birthday. He recalled a heartfelt anecdote about how their partnership started and how they met each other.

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar is celebrating his 50th birthday today (Monday, 24th April). The former Indian skipper has been the legend of the game and is arguably the best batter to have played the game of cricket.

Being the inspiration for every young cricketer who picks the cricket bat, Sachin took Indian cricket to great heights and it’s fair to say that he is the main reason behind the Indian cricket team being the powerhouse in world cricket. In his illustrious career spanning 24 years, the prolific Indian batter has scored 34,357 across the formats to go with 100 centuries.

On his 50th birthday, Sourav Ganguly revealed that he met Sachin Tendulkar during the U15 camp in Jaipur and he used to have heavy bats. Speaking in a video posted on Delhi Capitals Twitter account, he said:

“The first time I saw him was in the U15 camp in Indore long time ago. He used to use very heavy bats then and we spent a month in the camp together training and you could see that he was special.”

Both Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar were among the greats that took Indian cricket to great heights. They shared many partnerships between them and won many games for India.

Ganguly recalled how Sachin asked him to open and his career changed. He also passed with him a heartfelt birthday wish and welcomed him into the 50 age group club. He added:

“When he first asked me to open against South Africa in jaipur and india were not finding an opening batsman and he said why don’t you open and I said yeah I would love it and then it was a different story for me in my career.

It was the same thing with Sachin, he batted No.6 in ODIs and when they made him open he became a world champion and then our partnership started. Welcome into the club, I got it into last year and he’s into the club now. Lots of love from me and my family as we know him from the very long time. Hope he has great birthday.” He concluded.

Sachin Tendulkar is currently the part of Mumbai Indians coaching setup in the IPL 2023 whereas Sourav Ganguly is director of cricket for Delhi Capitals.
