Heinrich Klaasen Engages In Heated Chat With Fourth Umpire After Phil Salt S Controversial Catch
PC: X

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) broke the threatening partnership of Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen controversially. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter did not look happy at all with the decision. Was that a clean catch by Phil Salt very close to the boundary rope? This will remain a question.

An unhappy Heinrich Klaasen was spotted in an argument with the fourth umpire, who was just outside the boundary line. The SRH batter and the umpire had a few words between them. Klaasen had to go as the umpire signaled for an out.

After losing three quick wickets inside the power play, Sunrisers Hyderabad was in deep trouble. Stand-in captain Ishan Kishan and Klaasen came to the rescue, and in their joint effort, SRH founded a much-needed 97-run partnership. The South African batter departed for 31 off 22 with a couple of 4s and one 6. West Indies pace bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd gifted RCB captain Rajat Patidar the crucial breakthrough of the match.

Why was there so much controversy around the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen?

On the first ball of the 14th over of the first innings, Klaasen tried to hit the ball over the deep square leg area. He remained deep in his crease, middle and leg, and swung the bat to find a maximum. The connection was not right, and the ball went high in the air. Phil Salt was near the boundary rope, underneath the trajectory of the ball.

The fielder lost his balance and rolled over after grabbing the ball. His foot was very close to the boundary rope. Did his foot touch the rope? Here's the controversy. The third umpire was up for the checks, using several advanced technologies, and eventually declared Heinrich Klaasen out.

The umpire checked the action multiple times.

The batter had to wait for a while on the ground to hear the final decision from the umpire. The third umpire checked through the top angle as well to get a clear view of the action, but that too was not conventional enough to take a call. Then he went with the front angle to watch the reply again.

The third umpire might have checked whether there was any movement on the boundary line. As he found no movement on the rope, he decided in favour of the fielding side, which was the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Klaasen had to walk off the field, visibly not happy with the decision. But the umpire had the final words; RCB got the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen in a crucial moment of the match. It could be a turning point in the match.

After batting first in the first innings, SRH registered 201 runs in 20 overs in exchange for 9 wickets. Ishan Kishan's 80 off 38 was the highest individual score for Hyderabad.
