Ricky Ponting believes Rishabh Pant will surely be one of the players to watch during the T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in Australia later this year.
Pant was named the Indian team’s vice-captain for the South Africa tour of the India 2022 series. However, one day before the series’ first match, Pant was named captain after India’s skipper KL Rahul was ruled out due to injury.
Pant possesses a rare combination of proactivity and boldness that makes him a valuable addition to India’s T20I team. Still, his best position in a batting line-up has long been debated.
Pant has batted at different positions in the IPL, in perhaps the most recent edition, Ponting used his skipper at No. 4 or 5, contingent on the game situation. Pant scored 340 runs at a strike rate of over 151 and was the side’s second-highest scorer after opener David Warner.
‘Rishabh Pant just an outstanding young man’: Ponting
Ponting seriously thinks India should use him similarly. “I think they’ll have him as a floater,” he responded by telling Isa Guha in The ICC Review.
“They’ll have (him) listed at number five in the batting lineup.” However, if they get to the point in which there are seven-eight overs to go and they’re one or two down, they’ll probably send him in and offer him as much time as they can. He’s that motivated and explosive. That’s exactly how I intend to employ him.”
“He’s fantastic talk about great people.” He’s simply an excellent young man with the world at his feet. He’ll be extremely deadly for India on the wickets we’ll be preparing in Australia for the T20 World Cup – good, fast, flat, bouncy wickets. He’ll undoubtedly be one of the players to watch at the tournament.”
The Indian guns are primed and ready for the T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia later this year. On October 23, 2022, India will begin their campaign at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground. Their opponents are none other than their most dreaded adversaries, Pakistan. India will undoubtedly seek vengeance, especially after losing to them in the UAE in 2021.
