West Indies legend Chris Gayle expressed admiration for India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, describing him as a ‘phenomenal player’ with a bright future. Chris Gayle praised Suryakumar’s versatile batting style, highlighting his ability to hit all around the ground.

Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Men in Blue in the three-match T20I series against South Africa, starting on December 10 in Durban. Yadav is one of the most senior players in India’s squad, scoring 1985 runs in 58 T20Is at an average of 44.11 and a remarkable 171.71 strike rate.

Suyrakumar Yadav Is Just Phenomenal – Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle emphasized that bowlers would face challenges in figuring out how to bowl to Suryakumar Yadav due to his 360-degree playing style, making him a formidable and difficult-to-crack opponent.

“I don’t know how to describe that, he’s just phenomenal. [He hits] pretty much all around the ground, fantastic. Good strike rate, good player. Like I said, [he has a] bright future as well. I know he pretty much just started but down the road, consistency is going to be even more key for a player like SKY. He’s got phenomenal talent, you know, unbelievable talent,” Gayle told Star Sports.

“You just don’t know how to describe it. I am sure bowlers also try to pinpoint how to bowl to him because he’s so, you know, like a 360 [degree] player as well. It is going to be difficult for bowlers to work him, to decide which areas to [bowl to] try and cramp him out. Like I said, he’s just phenomenal,” he added.

Suryakumar Yadav Has The Potential To Take It To The Next Level – AB de Villiers

Suryakumar Yadav has been compared to AB de Villiers, who is known for his “360 player” capabilities. In a recent YouTube video, de Villiers expressed that Surya has the potential to reach the “next level” in his career if he maintains patience and avoids pushing too hard.

“I hope he never falls into the trap of trying to push it too hard. As a player, I always respected the situation. Always wait for your opportunity, be patient and you will get it. I believe he has the potential to take it to the next level,” de Villiers said.

India’s T20I squad: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Ravindra Jadeja (VC), Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Deepak Chahar.
