A massive blow for the India National Cricket Team. In the warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early in the innings without scoring a single run.

The young opener was dismissed for a two-ball duck. On the second day of the three-day warm-up match, Yashasvi Jaiswal and stand-in captain KL Rahul walked into the match to chase Sri Lanka Cricket XI's first innings total.

The home side batted well, scoring 363 runs for 8 wickets before declaring the innings. The Lankan batters proved that the Colombo pitch has something for the batters. There were a lot of expectations on Yashasvi Jaiswal as he played significantly well for the India National Cricket Team in the past across the formats and is considered one of the most technically sound batters among the new generation batters.

Expectations soon disappeared as Vishwa Fernando clinched his wicket with the help of Dilum Sudeera. India lost their first wicket for 0 on the scoreboard.

Why is the Test series vs Sri Lanka important for the Indian cricket team?

The Indian cricket team, who managed to claim only one win in 4 matches with one defeat and a couple of draws, stands at number 5 in the World Test Championship points table with a thin chance to qualify for the final of the title race. To keep the hope alive, the team needs to secure commanding wins over Sri Lanka.

If the Men in Blue get wins in both of the matches in the 2-match series, then they could make progress in the points table. The practice match against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI will help the Indian batters get a bit habituated with the Lankan playing conditions, where the spinners traditionally get most of the assistance.

Jaiswal is supposed to play a pivotal role in India’s tour of Sri Lanka. With very limited opportunities this year, the left-handed opener mostly impressed the cricket fans and some of the cricket experts as well. However, in a practice match against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI, where the hosts named a team with both stars and emerging players, it was surprising to see Yashasvi Jaiswal walk off from the deck with a duck.

The first Test between India and Sri Lanka will start on August 15 in Galle.
