“High-Quality Knock” – Twitter Hails Shreyas Iyer As He Hits Magnificent Century In 2nd ODI vs South Africa

The 27-year-old star India National Cricket Team middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer smashed a magnificent century in the second ODI of the three-match ODI series against Keshav Maharaj-led South Africa National Cricket Team at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, October 9.

Winning the toss and batting first, the South Africa National Cricket posted a score of 278 for 7 on the board. Aiden Markram (79) and Reeza Hendricks (74) were the top 2 performers for the visitors in the match.

While chasing the target, openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill failed to build a good partnership. However, Iyer, who leads Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), came out to bat after the dismissal of Gill and had an outstanding partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan.

The Iyer-Kishan duo together added a brilliant 161 runs for the 3rd wicket. Kishan scored his half-century off 60 balls and Iyer smashed his half-century off 48 balls.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan fell 7-run short of a well-deserved century and got dismissed by Bjorn Fortuin. He scored 93 runs off 84 balls, including 4 fours and 7 sixes.

However, Shreyas Iyer continued his brilliant batting and reached his century off 103 balls. This is only his second century in the 50-over format.

Overall, he scored 113* runs off 111 balls, including 15 fours. This is also Iyer’s best score in ODI cricket as his previous best was 103 against New Zealand.

Notably in the first ODI of the series in Lucknow, the 27-year-old Shreyas Iyer had played a stunning knock and smashed fantastic 50 runs off 37 balls, including 8 fours. In his last 6 ODI innings, Iyer has registered 1 hundred and 4 fifties.

Also, Iyer’s brilliant century helped the India National Cricket Team win the match by 7 wickets and level the three-match ODI series 1-1.
