I Am Still Hungry To Represent New Zealand: Trent Boult
Trent Boult has joined the national camp at Bay Oval in New Zealand. While speaking to reporters after his comeback, Boult said that he is hungry to represent the country for the next couple of months.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to make just over a year ago to move away from New Zealand cricket bubble in a way. I never wanted it to be about New Zealand or franchise cricket. I just respected the fact that my career is so long, and just tried to make the most of my remaining years as a bowler.
“Yeah, definitely as hungry as ever to still represent the country, and hopefully do something special with the guys over the next couple of months. I can’t wait,” the 34-year-old pacer said.
Lifting ICC World Cup 2023 Trophy Is My Biggest Focus: Trent Boult
The pace legend also added that despite playing in various T20I leagues during the first half of 2023, he always had ICC World Cup 2023 in mind. The Kiwi stalwart reckoned his biggest focus is to lift ICC World Cup 2023 trophy.
“I have always had this in the back of my mind to come back and work towards an ODI World Cup. There’s history involved there. The times we have had in previous campaigns has been very exciting. So just hungry to get involved, and hopefully play a big role.
“I’m just thinking about hopefully lifting something pretty shiny that we were pretty close to four years ago. That’s the biggest focus,” added Trent Boult.
New Zealand were the runners-up of the ODI World Cup during the last two editions in 2019 and 2015. Trent Boult did not sign a central contract with New Zealand Cricket last year as he made himself unavailable throughout 2023 due to participation in franchise leagues.
However, Boult is still a crucial member of New Zealand and always returns to the national team for prominent bilateral series and ICC tournaments. The left-armer is part of the ODI squad for the England vs New Zealand series.
