ICC World Cup 2023: New Zealand Confirm Trent Boult's Participation In World Cup As They Announce ODI Squad vs England

New Zealand, on Wednesday (August 9), announced a strong squad for the forthcoming three-match ODI series against England. It will be the penultimate series for the Black Caps before they head to India for the all-important ICC World Cup 2023.
The highlight of the squad is the return of ace pacer Trent Boult. The development has all but confirmed his participation in this year’s World Cup too. The fast bowler was a key member of the team for the 2015 and 2019 World Cups. However, his participation in the forthcoming marquee event looked doubtful after he turned down a central contract from New Zealand Cricket last year to spend more time with family and play in T20 leagues.
The fast-bowler did play in the T20 World Cup last year after being released from the central contract list but has not played an ODI since September last year. He was not a member of New Zealand’s ODI squad for two series against India and Pakistan as well as one against Sri Lanka.
The lack of participation in ODIs made many believe that New Zealand might decide against picking the bowler in the ODI team anymore. However, the Black Caps have recalled the pacer just ahead of the World Cup to make their plans crystal clear.
New Zealand ODI squad:
Apart from Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson has also returned to the side after fully recovering from a back injury. The fast bowler has not played an ODI game since April last year. In another development, allrounder Michael Bracewell failed to make it to the squad as he continues his recovery following surgery on his ruptured Achilles in June.
Mark Chapman and Jimmy Neesham will also miss the series to attend the birth of their first children. Tom Lathan will be leading the team.
“We’re delighted to include Kyle in this squad alongside his earlier selection for the T20 squads to play the UAE and England. He’s been working extremely hard on his rehabilitation following back surgery and we’re looking forward to seeing him back playing on the international stage.
“It’s also great to welcome Trent back into our ODI unit as he begins his preparation towards the World Cup in India,” coach Gary Stead said.
New Zealand ODI Squad:
Tom Latham (Capt), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Will Young
