Jos Buttler won the Player of the Match: As the target was 258, extra pressure was guaranteed. The fate of the match in Southampton was clear; it was only a matter of time for England to register another win against India. England wrapped up the 5-match series 4-0; India suffered back-to-back two T20I series defeats, first against Ireland, and now against the England National Cricket Team.

Jos Buttler’s 131-run knock from 64 balls, accompanied by the skipper Harry Brook’s unbeaten 95 runs from 45 balls, were the main reasons the Three Lions were able to climb to the peak of the mountain. With very limited hope, India tried as much as possible, but could not drive their innings to the finish line.

An unwanted record for India captain Shreyas Iyer

After two defeats against Ireland and four against England, India sustained a 7-match winless streak, including a washed-out match. As the captain of the team, Shreyas Iyer is yet to claim his first win as the full-time captain of the side.

Brendan Taylor, Elton Chigumbura, and Thisara Perera are the only three other captains of full member teams who recorded 7 winless matches during their initial stage as the captains for their respective teams.

Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan showed some resilience in the middle against England

In tonight’s match, Team India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first. Did he make the wrong call, allowing the home team to bat first?

For India, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma showed that the pitch still had something for the batters in the second innings of the match. Ishan scored 56 off 35, and Tilak got 53 off 25 balls. Carried by a couple of half-centuries, the Men in Blue replied with 201 in 20 overs, at the expense of 8 wickets, against England’s 257. England won the match by 56 runs.

In the middle-order of the game in the second innings. Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid delivered a few economical overs, which did not allow the opposing batters to score runs as per the asking rate. It was the total number of sixes which mainly created the difference between the two teams.

"Glad to be back at my best"- Jos Buttler after winning POTM

At the presentation ceremony, Player of the Match Jos Buttler said that he was delighted with the win. Jos Buttler mentioned that the surface was good to bat on and he tried to go back to his best.

"Obviously delighted. Been a bit of a lean patch. Glad to be back at my best. Played well in the IPL, felt good about my game. Something different about an England shirt and wanting to contribute."

"Harry's (Harry Brook) just an incredible player. Great to be at the other end and watch. Got to give yourself the time. Was a brilliant batting surface. We needed them as well, needed as many runs as possible. Great team performance. To win 4-0 against India is fantastic," Jos Buttler said.
