In a major blow for the India National Cricket Team, the star right-handed batsman Shubman Gill has suffered a severe injury ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Shubman Gill is a key member of the Indian team and him getting injured will change the dynamics of the playing XI in the Test series against Australia.

Shubman Gill doubtful for the Perth Test

According to the latest report in TOI, Shubman Gill suffered a finger injury while taking the catch in the slips during the match simulation against India A in Perth.

His finger injury is a serious one and it makes him doubtful for the Test series opener, which will be played in Perth from November 22.

However, there is a possibility of the star batter returning to India playing XI in the second Test, which will be played from December 6 in Adelaide.

“Yes, Shubman Gill is injured but it is too early to rule him out of the opening Test. The medical team is keeping a close watch on him,” said the well-placed source, as quoted by TOI.

Shubman Gill has shined in 2024 in Test cricket

The star top-order batsman Shubman Gill has shined for the India National Cricket Team in Test cricket in 2024 and has played a key role in their victories.

Overall, he has featured in 10 Test matches in 2024 where he has batted in 19 innings. In those innings, Gill has slammed 806 runs at an average of 47.41 and a strike rate of 61.57.

Gill has hit three centuries and three fifties in Test cricket in 2024, with the best score of an unbeaten 119. He has also got a great record on Australian soil in the longest format of the game.

In 3 Test matches in Australia, the right-handed batter has scored 259 runs at an amazing average of 51.80 to go with two half-centuries.

Overall, Gill has featured in 29 Test matches for India National Cricket Team and has scored 1800 runs at an average of 36.73, which doesn't do justice to talent.

He would be looking to make a quick recovery from the injury and play the matches against Pat Cummins & Co. to further improve his stats in Test cricket.

Rohit Sharma likely to feature in Perth Test

India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma was doubtful for the Test series opener of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia National Cricket Team.

This was because he didn't travel with the team and stayed back in Mumbai to fulfil family obligations as he and his wife were awaiting the arrival of their second child.

On Friday, November 15, Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh welcomed their second child. The duo officially confirmed the news on Saturday, November 16.

Meanwhile, now there is a high possibility of Rohit travelling to Australia with a week remaining for the first Test in Perth. Him featuring in the playing XI will be a big boost for India, particularly after India lost Gill due to injury.
