Australia has received a massive boost ahead of the second Test of the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 against England, with Pat Cummins all set to be included in the squad for the much-awaited day-night clash at the Gabba in Brisbane, starting on December 4.
Cricket Australia (CA) is all set to announce the squad for the Pink Ball Test on Friday, November 28, and Pat Cummins is all but confirmed to lead the hosts in the second Ashes Test against England at The Gabba after missing his team’s dominating eight-wicket victory in Perth.
The star fast bowler, who was feared to miss the entire Ashes 2025-26 series due to bone stress in his back, has made a dramatic return after weeks of intense rehabilitation.
Pat Cummins set for big Ashes comeback as CA prepares squad for Day-Night Test
According to Code Sports, it is still unclear whether Cummins will walk straight into the playing XI, but he will definitely feature in the squad for the Day-Night Test that CA is expected to announce on Friday. His return adds even more strength to the team in the ongoing five-match Test series.

It is also being said that Australia is unlikely to make any other changes to the squad, which means the final look of the batting order remains uncertain for the second Ashes Test.
Usman Khawaja’s back concerns continue to worry the Australian team management, while Travis Head’s unforgettable fourth-innings century in Perth has added a new twist to the selection puzzle.
Pat Cummins stuns selectors with full-throttle comeback in nets
However, Cummins has impressed the national selectors by bowling at full intensity during training over the last few weeks. The star pacer hit the nets in Perth first and then followed it up with another strong session at the Cricket NSW facility, where he was seen bowling comfortably with the pink ball.
At the Sydney training session, fellow pacer Josh Hazlewood also turned up, but there is little hope of him recovering in time for the Day-Night Test against England. Hazlewood is still dealing with a hamstring injury and is not expected to be available for selection.

Doggett awaits selection twist as Pat Cummins races against time
Meanwhile, Australia’s rising fast bowler Brendan Doggett is keeping himself fully ready for the Day-Night Test at the Gabba, especially with captain Pat Cummins still working his way back from a back injury. Doggett said that he doesn’t know yet if he will play, but he has made it clear that he will be prepared to step in the moment the team needs him.
He was one of the stars behind the hosts’ dominance in the Ashes opener, taking five wickets on debut in Perth. With Cummins racing against time in his recovery, Doggett is hoping to get another chance in the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 against England at home.
Pat is looking pretty good in the nets: Brendan Doggett
Brendan Doggett stated, as quoted by Cricket Australia’s official website, “Pat is looking pretty good in the nets now, so we will see where that lands. I am going to control what I can control, keep ticking the legs over, and keep bowling and trying to improve in every session and game. If I get called on in that second test, I feel like I am ready to go again.”
Doggett further added, “There have been no conversations whatsoever (on making way for Cummins). We are soaking in the win and letting everyone get back to their families. We arrive in Brisbane on Sunday, so I assume conversations will start there about what the line-up looks like for the second test.”
