'Hypocrite' Stuart Broad Slammed For Distasteful Remark On Alex Carey

England veteran Stuart Broad has been facing the heat on social media for his comments on Alex Carey during the recently-concluded second Ashes Test at Lord’s.
The fifth and final day of the second Test saw a huge controversy when Jonny Bairstow departed in contentious circumstances in the first session. After ducking underneath a short ball from Cameron Green, Bairstow casually walked out of the crease. Carey sensed an opportunity and threw the ball at the stumps. Australia appealed for a stumping and the third umpire did not hesitate in adjudging Bairstow out.

The incident enraged the Lord’s crowd as well as the English players. He was seen having a few exchanges with the Australian players after Bairstow’s dismissal and Stuart Broad was an exception either. The veteran pacer replaced Bairstow at the crease and did not take long to make his displeasure known to Carey.

‘Hypocrite’ Stuart Broad called out:
Stuart Broad was not at all impressed with the way Carey dismissed his teammate and did not shy away from venting his frustration. He was caught sledging Carey by the stump mic. A frustrated and furious Broad was heard telling Carey: “That’s all you’ll ever be remembered for.”
Broad’s comment, however, did not go down with many as fans called him out on social media. Calling him a ‘hypocrite’, the fans reminded him about the incident in 2013 Ashes when he refused to walk after edging a delivery from Ashton Agar delivery to the slip fielder.
Broad had edged the ball to Michael Clarke at first slip but the umpire adjudged him not out. Australia had already used their two reviews so Broad remained at the crease and went on to share a 138-run partnership with Ian Bell. England eventually won the game by just 14 runs.
“Those things aren’t remembered. It’s winning the series that will be remembered. We do have a win-at-all-costs mentality. I think we’re quite an unpleasant team to play against at the moment. Teams won’t play against us and enjoy the experience. That’s what we want,” he had said at that time.
Sharing the clips of that infamous incident, the fans opined that Broad should be the last man to complain about lack of sportsmanship. Users also recalled the incident from two years ago when when Broad and Bairstow combined to run New Zealand’s Colin de Grandhomme out in a similar way.
I’m old enough to remember when Stuart Broad laughed and celebrated Johnny Bairstow running out De Grandhomme while he was out of his crease. The hypocrisy here, good lord.#ENGvsAUS #Ashes23 pic.twitter.com/56kDlTv7U9

Stuart Broad, the last bastion for sportsmanship in cricket, was heard saying it was the worst thing he’d ever seen in cricket
Tbf as a man who no longer feels the need to appeal to umpires for his own wickets, he is uniquely placed to judge what should & shouldn’t be given out. https://t.co/Esl3vo1HSq

Stuart Broad said the runout of Bairstow was one of the worst things he’s seen on a cricket field. Called it poor sportsmanship.
Boy does he have selective memory. pic.twitter.com/X1M9hh5xKT— The Oracle (@BigOtrivia) July 2, 2023
No funnier sight in cricket than Stuart Broad trying to make a point about The Spirit of Cricket. ???
