With the likelihood of a successful international comeback currently seeming unlikely, India and Tamil Nadu opener Murali Vijay is seeking options abroad. Vijay last played India in the Ranji Trophy in December 2019 and the Perth Test in 2018.
Before last year, when he made a comeback in the 20-over Tamil Nadu Premier League, the 38-year-old Vijay, who has 3982 Test runs and 9205 first-class runs, had not played any cricket at all.

India’s 2014 campaign in England is only remembered by diehard cricket fans. Although most people would remember it as Virat Kohli’s worst-ever series, the team’s opener, Murali Vijay, faced more than 1000 deliveries. James Anderson was the main offender for the former India captain.
However, Vijay was not renowned for that in that series. Of those deliveries, he missed 40% of them. Although Vijay is no longer a member of the Indian team or his domestic team, that series is still the gold standard for Test cricket openers.

“I want to play a little bit of competitive cricket”: Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay has announced his desire to return to the sport and is currently searching for possibilities abroad in a fun dig at BCCI.
“I am almost done with BCCI (smiles) and looking for opportunities abroad. I want to play a little bit of competitive cricket,” Vijay told WV Raman on Wednesdays with WV, a weekly show on Sportstar.
Despite stating that he is constantly seeking to develop youthful talent, Vijay emphasized the need to alter “people’s mentality” regarding players who are past the age of 30.
“After 30 in India, it’s a taboo (smiles). I think people see us as 80-year-olds walking on the street. The media should also address it differently. I feel you are peaking in your 30s. Sitting here right now, I feel I can bat the best way I can. But unfortunately, the opportunities were fewer, and I had to search for chances outside” Murali Vijay said.
“I honestly feel as a person, you can only do what’s in your hand. You can’t control the uncontrollable. Whatever happened happened” Murali Vijay Added.
Vijay, 38, has 3982 Test runs and 9205 first-class runs. He had not played cricket since last year when he returned to action in the 20-over Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
