Australian wicketkeeper batter Alyssa Healy opened up about leading the squad in the absence of regular skipper Meg Lanning in the upcoming Women’s Ashes series in England. Alyssa Healy said that she will try to give her best as captain of the team to help the team win matches on the tour.
Meg Lanning was ruled out of the Women’s Ashes 2023 series due to medical reasons. The world’s most successful captain remained at home for treatment. Alyssa Healy was named as the stand-in skipper for the Ashes series, with all-rounder Tahlia McGrath serving as her deputy.

I Am Going To Do The Best To Lead The Side – Alyssa Healy
In a Sky Sports Cricket interview, Alyssa Healy said that she will lead the team in her own style rather than trying to emulate Meg Lanning.
“Look, she is not here and I am also acutely aware that I am not Meg. Slightly different personality and a different sort of leadership style to her,” Healy said.
“It’s important that I put my own spin on this group without sort of stepping on too many toes because obviously still Meg’s role and when she decides to come back.
It’s a delicate one but at the same time I am going to do the best to lead the side and hopefully put the girls in a position where they are confident enough to execute their skills and win games for Australia,” he added.

Just About Managing That Work – Alyssa Healy
The stand-in skipper revealed that she will bat in the middle order rather than her regular opening position to manage his workload.
“It’s very busy but a challenge that I am excited by an opportunity to lead the side in an Ashes series is the one that doesn’t come around for too many people,” she continued.
“Workload is a little bit of a juggle but it’s nothing different to what we usually do. The bowlers are being fantastic so far, really leading to what they want to achieve. For me, it’s just about managing that work. I am excited more than threatened by the opportunity,” she concluded.
The series between Australia and England will begin with one test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham between June 22 and 26. Following the Test match, two teams will play three T20Is and three ODIs.
