I Cannot Process The Passing Of This Great Of Our Sport - Virat Kohli On Demise Of Shane Warne

India batter Virat Kohli paid a heartfelt tribute to Shane Warne after the 52-year-old was found dead in a Thailand resort villa. His management released an official statement about his demise and said that the family requested privacy at this difficult time and further details will be shared later.

Shane Warne is considered to be one of the all-time greats of the game and perhaps the greatest leg-spinner the game has ever since. He has made his debut for Australia against India in 1992 and went on to become the first bowler to pick 700 Test wickets in the history of the game.

He finished his career with 708 wickets in 145 Tests in 2007 and picked 293 wickets in 194 ODI matches for Australia, Though the T20 franchise cricket came late in his career, he did amazingly well in the format also, picking 73 wickets in 70 T20 matches.

He led Rajasthan Royals to the Indian Premier League title in the inaugural IPL 2008 and also helped the Big Bash League gain momentum in its initial years.

Shane Warne was perhaps one of the most popular and controversial figures in the history of the game. While he was a wizard with the ball on the field, off the field, his personal life kept many of the tabloids alive.

Warne has also been credited with reigniting the art of leg-spin in limited-overs cricket due to his flashy on-the-field persona which went well with his ability to turn the match with the ball. He did this amazingly well in the semi-final and the final of the 1999 ICC World Cup, when he scalped four wickets each against South Africa and Pakistan respectively, earning Player of the Match awards in both matches, as Australia won their second World cup title.

Meanwhile, as the news of his demise broke and spread like wildfire, tributes came pouring in from all quarters and India’s former captain Virat Kohli also paid his respects on Twitter with a heartfelt message for Shane Warne.

He tweeted: “Life is so fickle and unpredictable. I cannot process the passing of this great of our sport and also a person I got to know off the field. RIP #goat. Greatest to turn the cricket ball.”
