I Didn't Feel Like Speaking About It In The First Place - Wriddhiman Saha On Boria Majumdar Controversy
Indian wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha opened up on the aftermath of the punishment doled out to a journalist, Boria Majumdar, who had threatened the Bengal cricketer with consequences if he doesn’t schedule an interview.
Earlier this year, Saha posted images from WhatsApp where a journalist made remarks after Saha turned down his approach for an interview.
“You did not call, never again will I interview you. I don’t take insults kindly. And I will remember this. This wasn’t something ypu (you) should have done,” the screenshot read.
Following the controversy, BCCI conducted an investigation and banned Majumdar for two years. He isn’t allowed to speak with any BCCI-related player or member, as per the ban.
“If the other person doesn’t even have any regret, how long can you stay silent?” – Wriddhiman Saha
Saha has spoken out about the incident, saying he never thought about revealing the messages but was forced to after seeing that the journalist didn’t feel sorry for his actions.
“My purpose was to show that a journalist can go to these lengths to get an interview. I got to know later that he has done such things before as well, that is why BCCI stepped in and punished him. I didn’t speak initially because I’m under contract with BCCI,” Saha told Sports Today.
“I also didn’t feel like speaking about it in the first place, because at the end of the day, everyone has their own careers. But if the other person doesn’t even have any regret, how long can you stay silent?” he added.
