Despite being in poor form off-late, the BCCI chose not to include Virat Kohli on India’s visit to the West Indies. Former India cricketers were not pleased with the decision since Kohli was not scoring runs.

While some famous players believe that a break will do Kohli the world of good, many others say that the former India captain should play as many games as possible, especially because Virat is expected to be a vital part of the Indian squad at the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.

Former India captains Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev have previously spoken out against the BCCI allowing Kohli or any other player frequent vacations from international cricket.

It Is Important That Virat Kohli Gets To Play As Many Games As Possible: Dilip Vengsarkar

“I don’t understand why the Indian selectors have rested him for the West Indies series. If he is in their scheme of things for the T20 World Cup in Australia, he should play as many games as possible to get his form and confidence back. That would help him. Resting him sends a wrong signal because if he is going to Australia, then he will go without really big scores behind him. That would worry him as well.

I always feel that when you are not scoring runs, it’s important to play as many matches as possible and spend time in the middle, and get back among the runs. This game is all about confidence,” Vengsarkar told Khaleej Times.

This is Kohli’s second brief vacation from international cricket, after his rest for the home T20I series against South Africa following another gruelling IPL season. There have been speculations that Kohli may fly to Zimbabwe for the ODI series in August to regain his form, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
