Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the best bowlers that India have produced, especially in Test cricket. Ashwin has picked up 516 wickets in 100 Tests so far at an average of 23.75. He is a vital cog in India's red-ball plans and will be crucial in the flurry of Test matches that India will play in the upcoming months.
In addition to being a successful cricketer, Ashwin is an engineer and a successful YouTuber as well. After the release of his book “I Have The Streets: A Kutti Cricket Story”, he became a writer as well.
It is clear that Ravichandran Ashwin is someone who does not like to take a rest from work. Ravichandran Ashwin speaks on his unique way of living life
During an exclusive interview with the news agency PTI, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed his way of living life. He claimed that he does not set any particular target and does what he wants to do without thinking too much.
“I am living my life, that’s it. I am not thinking about accomplishing ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ targets. I am staying in the moment. I am a creative person in general, and if I feel I want to do something, I will go ahead and do it. Whether it’s right or wrong, is something that I will assimilate later,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.
But Ashwin wasn't always confident like he is now. He revealed that he was insecure as a child but got out of it and it showed in his performance for India as well.
“I’m not insecure at all. I would rather fail in life than be absolutely safe. That’s my character. I don’t have the common insecurities that people have. Breaking away from my insecurity as a child gave me a great insight into how I can exploit somebody else’s insecurity. And that’s how I see cricket or life in general,” the veteran offspinner elaborated.
Ashwin has been repeatedly involved in the banters on social media regarding his views on some controversial laws of cricket, especially the earlier known Mankading rule. The 37-year-old has taken the fight head-on, especially with some of the former and current England players.
Covid break helped me to be able to express myself - Ravichandran Ashwin
The legendary offspinner also mentioned that it's the break during Covid that allowed him to be free to express himself in the past few years. During the earlier times of Covid-19, cricket was limited and it gave Ashwin time to take a break and assess his life.
“The time that I have is pretty limited. I do plan but for me it’s about living life. I felt cricket took away a lot of my time since 2010 his India debut but COVID gave me a chance to take a break, and you know, assess where I was,” Ashwin remembered.
“It the COVID-forced break has given me wings over the last four years to be able to express myself, expand my creativity zones and so on and so forth,” he says, referring to his success as a rare outspoken voice in Indian cricket," he added.
Ravichandran Ashwin's international debut
