Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah opened up about his exclusion from the Pakistan team on the sidelines of PSL 2026.
Shah was talking on the post-match show following his match-winning performance for Karachi Kings against Lahore Qalandars on April 23. He made an unbeaten 44 from just 14 balls to lead the Kings to victory.
Khushdil Shah's match-winning performance
Karachi Kings were faced with a chase of 200 and were reeling at 166-5, needing 34 runs in the last three overs. Khushdil was at the crease with his skipper, David Warner.
Shah then hit Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi for 23 runs in the 18th over, including 3 sixes and a four. In the next over, Khushdil hit Haris Rauf for two sixes off successive deliveries as Karachi won the match with 8 balls to spare.
This performance gave Khushdil the Player of the Match award.
"I am the most different among all the players in Pakistan": Khushdil Shah
🚨Khushdil Shah: 🗣️ "I'm different from everyone else
— SheR•ALI (@Sher__Ali) April 24, 2026
• I'm not on social media, nor do I hold grudges that I was treated unfairly. I scored 700, 800 runs at number 5 or 6 in domestic cricket, yet I was dropped from the team." pic.twitter.com/qmGvWDwHCq
Talking to former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja after the match, Khushdil talked about his exclusion from the Pakistan side.
"Among all the players in Pakistan, I am the most different. Neither do I post Quranic verses on social media, saying that injustice has been done to me or is happening to me. Recently, in domestic cricket at number five or six, I scored 700-800 runs and also scored double hundreds, 150 plus as well, meaning I played big innings. But despite that, I am dropped from the team," he said.
Since making his debut for Pakistan in 2019, Khushdil Shah has been in and out of the team, having played 15 ODIs and 38 T20Is. He hasn't featured for the national side since September 2025.
He also talked about his desire to create a maximum impact for his team.
"Our team needed this badly. The position I bat in, the aim is to win 1-2 matches from there. It's the most difficult position to bat in (number 7). If you get out, the bowlers are next. I have been struggling in this position for the last 6-7 years. Want to create the maximum impact for the team with a few hits. Credit to the captain [David Warner] for taking the game deep."
Khushdil Shah's performance in PSL 2026
Although he was the Player of the Match, Khushdil Shah's performances haven't been anything to write home about in the remaining matches.
In 9 matches, he has made just 109 runs at an average of 15.57. He has taken 8 wickets as well, but they have come at an economy of 9.67.
Karachi Kings will hope that Khushdil can keep up the momentum as they make one final push to qualify for the playoffs.
Karachi Kings qualification scenario for PSL 2026
Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, and Islamabad United have all already qualified for the PSL 2026 playoffs.
Karachi Kings have just one match left in the league stage of the PSL, and it is a must-win game. Even if they win they will need other results to go their way because of the poor NRR. This last match is an afternoon match on Saturday, April 25, where they will face Quetta Gladiators.
