Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has strongly vouched for Prithvi Shaw’s inclusion for the T20 World Cup later this year. Prithvi Shaw impressively bounced back from a forgettable Australia tour to smash a truckload of runs in the white-ball games. Aakash Chopra thinks that the selectors cannot ignore the youngster if he continues to be in the form he has shown at present.
After Prithvi Shaw topped the run-scoring charts in the Vijay Hazare Trophy this year, he put the bowlers to the sword on multiple occasions in IPL this year. Delhi Capitals’ opening pair of Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan was arguably the most fearsome duos as they smashed runs consistently at a brisk rate. Shaw was the fourth-highest run-getter until the tournament’s suspension with 308 runs in eight games at 38.50 with three fifties, keeping a strike rate of 166.49.
Aakash Chopra highlighted that he keeps batting the way he is, the selectors cannot ignore him and have to consider him for the T20 World Cup. The 43-year old thinks that it’s hard to overlook the rate at which Shaw has scored the runs and that experts had already anticipated the youngster to shine. Aakash recalled the 21-year old hitting six fours in an over, claiming it’s not easy to do so.
“If Prithvi Shaw continues batting like this, I feel he will have to be considered for the World T20. You just cannot ignore him now because of the kind of form he has shown, the kind of runs he has put, and the fashion in which he has scored those runs. We had spoken earlier that Prithvi Shaw will be one of the finds of the tournament, that his strike rate will be the best. And he is standing there only. The way he has batted, six fours off six deliveries, it is not that easy to hit six boundaries in the first over,” Chopra said in his Youtube channel.
He has been absolutely sensational: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra pointed out that Prithvi Shaw displayed the fearlessness, but the risk-free approach was equally there. The cricketer-turned-commentator underlined that they saw the version of Shaw, who scored a Test hundred on debut.
“The way he has batted, the skills and fearless approach he has shown, he was taking risks but it did not seem like he was doing so. He has been absolutely sensational. We saw the old Prithvi Shaw, who had scored a century on his Test debut,” he added.
