Former India cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan was a famous voice during the late 1990s till 2010s. He was seen regularly in the commentary box doing pre-match shows and also pitch reports. However, he suddenly disappeared from the international matches and was only seen in domestic matches in India. The reason for his dismissal from the international stages is still unknown.

After staying away from international commentary for a long time, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has retired from commentary and has blamed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the decision he has taken.

The former spinner stepped away from the BCCI commentary on Friday, voicing his displeasure in a series of tweets about the lack of opportunity to perform toss and presentation duties, which he believed limited his role. He was known for his expert opinions both on social media and on commentary box as well.

He directly targeted the Indian Board with his words while explaining his reasoning. Given his extensive career in broadcasting, many cricket fans were surprised by his decision to step down. In his posts, he made it straightforward that this was a conscious decision, as wants to be respected by the decision and was happy to contribute fully and be recognised in the role.

I am very happy -Laxman Sivaramakrishnan

While posting on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, "I am retiring from commentary for BCCI." The fans were shocked by his decision and asked his reason for taking the decision in the comments section. In another post, he lashed out at the BCCI, pointing out his experience in commentary and also the roles he has rarely been assigned.

"If I have not been used for TOSSES and PRESENTATION for 23 years and new comers come in do pitch report Tosses Presentation even when Shastri was coaching, what do you think could be the reason," he wrote on X.

"This retirement is only the beginning of a story when told, general public ,cricket fans and everyone will be utterly Shocked. I am very happy that people who hate me are delighted. But those who thought I was at least decent. Thanks. BCCI will be left with disbelief," Laxman Sivaramakrishnan added.

Old faces ignored by BCCI

Over the years, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has not been seen in any major events like the Indian Premier League (IPL) or in World Cups. The likes of Ravi Shastri, Harsha Bhogle, and Murali Kartik have been preferred over him to do the Toss and post-match presentations. Neither in the regional language has he been seen doing the commentary in the Tamil panel.

After this announcement, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was shocked with Laxman Sivaramakrishnan's decision right before the upcoming season. The former said, on X, "Oh no! Why not this IPL?"

The TATA IPL 2026 is set to begin from March 28, 2026, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the opening game. Only 20 match fixtures have been released by BCCI due to the Assembly elections in India.
