Australia star Glenn Maxwell has said that he has still not given up on Test cricket and is hopeful of making a much-awaited return to red-ball cricket.

While the right-handed batsman has been an integral member of Australia’s white-ball teams for nearly a decade now, the same cannot be said about his position in the Test team. He has not played a Test since 2017. The last of his only 7 Tests came in Bangladesh before he was dropped. In his debut Test in 2013, the spin-bowling allrounder scored 13 and 8 runs against India and picked up 4 wickets.

He earned a recall in 2017 for the tour of India and scored an impressive century in his comeback game in Ranchi. The knock, however, turned out to be a false dawn as Glenn Maxwell failed to build up on it and was dropped soon. His Test career is completely off the track at the moment but it has not stopped him from fancying a return to the longest format of the game.

“I haven’t given up, I think I’ve just got to be realistic about the timings of the way I’ve been playing my white-ball cricket. You play a World Cup and then you don’t play any Shield cricket, you play at the back end of summer in white ball and don’t play any Shield cricket, so it’s just the way it’s gone over the last 10 years of my career really,” Glenn Maxwell said.

Glenn Maxwell’s memorable stay in India:

Glenn Maxwell recently returned home after a memorable stay in India that saw him play a key role in Australia’s record-extending sixth World Cup triumph. He finished the competition as Australia’s third-highest run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 400 runs in 9 games at an average of over 66 and a strike rate of 150.

The right-handed batsman smashed two memorable centuries during the tournament. The first one came against the Netherlands when he hit a record 40-ball hundred. Later in the tournament, he scored an unbeaten 201 runs against Afghanistan to help Australia recover from 91 for 7 and chase down 292.

The knock was widely labeled as the greatest ODI knock of all time. Just before leaving India, he scored a sensational unbeaten century in the third T20I against the hosts to help his team recover from 68 for 3 and chase down an improbable 223.
