"I promised at home...": Sarfaraz Khan dedicates Irani Cup double ton to brother Musheer after tragedy

Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan fulfilled the promise that he made to his brother Musheer Khan. After his young brother met with an accident, the Indian batter told his family that he would be hitting a century, which would be for his brother, in the Irani Cup 2024.

Sarfaraz Khan stood tall in his statement as he came up with the daddy hundred in the Irani Cup 2024 match against the Rest of India. The elite domestic tournament game took place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Sarfaraz Khan was the main reason behind Mumbai winning the Irani Cup 2024. The right-hander made sure that he continued his golden touch in the domestic circuit and came up with another terrific performance for the state team helping them add another title to the kitty.

Sarfaraz Khan became the first-ever player from Mumbai to hit a double century in the Irani Cup.

Not only did he hit a sensational century, but he made sure that he doubled it up and became the first-ever player from his state to hit a double century in the Irani Cup.

Sarfaraz Khan came to bat at No.6 for his team, and right from the start, he looked positive. He played some crisp shots right from the start and looked in a good rhythm. He stole the limelight on the first two days of the game as he hardly put a foot wrong and ensured that he helped his team put a big total on the board.

Sarfaraz Khan brought up his century in 149 balls and registered his 15th First-Class century. This was also his second hundred in the Irani Cup, with the first one coming in the 2022 edition when he scored 138 runs against Saurashtra.

But what was impressively was his hunger to get runs. Even after getting a century, he made sure that he bats with the same focus. He slammed a double century, achieving the feat in 253 balls. This was his fourth double-century in FC cricket, and he also had a first-class triple-hundred to his name.

Sarfaraz Khan, who won Player of the Match in the Irani Cup, talked about his innings, saying that he tried to follow the process. He dedicated his performance to the brother Musheer Khan, saying that he promised him to make a century. Speaking after the game, he explained:

“I try to follow the process and whatever I have been doing with my Abbu. If you travel all around India, you are used to how the wickets play. One has to work all around at their game, look at how the seniors are doing and also, I need to work on my weaknesses. This trophy is the team's but I promised at home that I would make a hundred for Musheer who suffered an accident and this is for him,”

On his way back, his car hit the divider and flipped a few times. He was rushed to hospital where it was revealed that he fractured his back and was ruled out for three months.

Sarfaraz Khan, who was part of the Indian squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, was released from India's squad for the Irani Cup 2024. The batter has played three games for the national team, scoring three fifties in his first five innings, more impressively at a strike-rate of 79.6.
