“I was getting ready to...” - Sarfaraz Khan makes huge revelation after India call-up

Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan opened up on his maiden call-up for the Indian Cricket Team in the Test series against England. He said that at first he didn’t believe he was selected and was getting ready to play in the Ranji Trophy 2024.

All the years of hard work finally paid off for Sarfaraz Khan when he got his India call-up for the second Test against England. The batter was named as a replacement after KL Rahul was ruled out of the second game following pain in the right quadriceps.

Sarfaraz Khan also might be in line to make his India debut in the Tests. Since KL Rahul is not there, one of Rajat Patidar or Sarfaraz might play. The Mumbai batter is been touted as the run machine in domestic cricket as he piled up huge amounts of runs that too incredibly consistent.

Sarfaraz Khan forced selectors to pick him in the team after his impressive knock in the match between India A and England Lions. He slammed 161 off 166 to go with 18 fours and 5 sixes and helped his side win the game. It was hard to ignore him this time because of the way he had performed.

Sarfaraz Khan revealed that he had his bags packed for the Ranji Trophy and after he got the call for India, he couldn’t believe it. He revealed that he immediately called his father, who was at his native place, and got emotional.

Sarfaraz Khan also revealed about the joy of his family and said that everyone at home was emotional and very happy. Speaking to BCCI ahead of the second Test against England in Vizag, he explained:

“I was getting ready to play in the Ranji Trophy and had kept my bags packed. Suddenly I got the call and got to know I was selected. I didn’t believe it in the beginning.

“My father was at our native place, I called him and he turned emotional too. Everyone at home was happy my wife, my mother and my father, they all got emotional.”

Sarfaraz Khan further talked about his father’s dream, which is to play for India. He said that after he received his call-up, he felt that his years of hard work had paid off and he was delighted.

He further revealed that he had a dream that his India A teammates are congratulating him and he’s scoring runs for the team. He explained:

My only dream has been to fulfill the desire of my father to see me play for the Indian team. After the call-up, it feels like the work I have done has finally paid off, and I am very happy.

I had dreamt that my India A teammates were congratulating me and shaking hands. It was a recurring dream that I was playing for India and scoring runs. As they say, everything happens for a reason.”

Sarfaraz Khan has mustered 3912 runs at an average of 69.85 in 45 FC games. The batter has also slammed 14 centuries. He would be hoping to continue his form for the Indian team as well.
